Someday we'll find it

Much like Dolly Parton, today's intro is short 'n' sweet: Happy Pride. The Rainbow Connection remains the purest song of all time. You deserve joy. Here are seven little bowls of that to dip your chip into.

Cronch cronch:

  1. So, apparently, our planet looks like it has a heartbeat when viewed through infrared sensors. (It's the Schumann Resonance, if I'm understanding it correctly, contrasted with the way plants exchange gases during photosynthesis. The resonance doesn't help or hurt us, and anyone using its name to sell us something really shouldn't be trusted, but it sure is pretty to look at when we catch it dancing.)
  2. Last week, I watched Ron Howard's documentary, Jim Henson: Idea Man, and learned how the original Kermit the Frog was made from an old green coat that once belonged to Henson's mom. He wasn't even meant to be a frog at first; he was just a simple hand puppet made from this cast-off piece of clothing. (This is me asking us both what stuff we might have in storage right now, waiting to be transformed. Literal or figurative: choose your own adventure.)
  3. Here's the great Esmé Weijun Wang saying so many things so much better than I can about engaging in creative acts while the world's doing what it's doing.
  4. Feeling like you haven't moved your hips enough lately? Or at least your head and shoulders? Me either, but there's a Rufus featuring Chaka Khan for that.
  5. Less interested in shaking any body parts and more in staring out a window, bittersweetly? Take two Joan Armatrading and call me in the morning.
  6. Check out this adorable cartoon-lookin’-ass bird. My sources (the internet) tell me it's a Japanese snow fairy, aka a "long-tailed tit." Don't look at me like that! I didn't name it, some other guy did!
  7. One of the most badass guitarists in Austin, Emily Wolfe (who has not one but two Epiphone models named after her, like Slash and B.B. King) does these tone-matching exercises online sometimes and I think they're delightful. Here she is earlier this spring, summoning the sounds of rock & roll's queer Black badass inventor, Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

Can I be a cornball and paraphrase a few more Muppet lyrics? Cool, thanks: I think you're amazing, so keep on stargazing. See you lovers and dreamers next week.
